He was a world-renowned historian, a national academician of the Republic of Armenia, the founder and first holder of the Chair in Modern Armenian History at UCLA, later named in his honor, and author of the monumental four-volume work The Republic of Armenia and multiple books on the Armenian Genocide and the historical homeland of the Armenian people.

ԻԼՀԱՄԸ, ՆԻԿՈԼԸ ԵՒ ՄԵՐ ՉՈՐՍ ՀԵՐՈՍՆԵՐԸ․ Րաֆֆի Հովհաննիսյան

And once again, this time our four golden boys martyred out of turn and against all hope as the target in Ilham’s and Nikol’s coordinated policy.

With boundless sorrow I share the unspeakable grief of Armo’s, Samvel’s, Yervand’s, and Gagik’s families and of their fellow servicemen. May their living memory guide us, the carriers of our heritage, toward the light of truth, wisdom and the power of will, redemption and the full recovery of our backbone.

«Սա է ժառանգությունը քո». Սբ․ Պատարագ

One hundred and five years ago, the First was proclaimed.

Honor and glory to its founders, guardians and protectors, all devoted heirs—generation after generation. Without it, fragile and deficient but heroic, long-suffering but enlightened, unprepared for the incessant series of blows from inside and out but still strong in spirit, we would not have had  our twin worlds of the Republic of Armenia and our standard-bearer Artsakh—we ourselves would not have existed  even on this last state frontline of hope representing a sliver of our larger Homeland.
